About Me
Hi! I'm Rosie, a sophomore in my second year at Stanford OHS. I am super passionate about astrobiology and hope to work for the U.S. Space Force. I think the fact that astrobiology combines the littlest and biggest things in the universe in one field of study is so cool. Outside school, you can usually find me drawing character designs, writing, or playing volleyball. I also love webtoons and anime, so you might catch me binging some at 3am!
Why I Chose Stanford OHS
I applied to Stanford OHS from Astra Nova School, another online middle school that offered me a rigorous and immersive introduction to the academic path I am now following. Astra Nova gave me the passion and drive for academics that has motivated me to keep moving forward and working hard, but Stanford OHS has given me the invaluable ability to apply that motivation efficiently, productively, and effectively. Not only do I know more about myself and how I operate, I've gained so much independence and now have the skills to achieve things for my own betterment as opposed to achieving them for external recognition. The opportunity to take advanced courses while remaining connected to a global, intellectually curious peer group has made it the ideal fit for me.
Stanford OHS has been a place where I can thrive. The school's flexible structure allows me to excel in areas I’m passionate about, such as biology and creative writing, while also providing space for personal growth in other areas, like art and volleyball. The academic rigor keeps me engaged and constantly learning, while the support from teachers and classmates has made me feel part of a worldwide home. I know I’m not just a student number here—my ideas, contributions, and interests matter. Stanford OHS has also pushed me to think critically, solve problems creatively, and approach things (especially problems I feel like giving up on) with a growth mindset.
The challenging coursework, especially in biology, has inspired me to pursue deeper knowledge in the field while developing skills like time management and self-discipline. That kind of learning combined with students and instructors from around the world has expanded my understanding of different perspectives, helping me grow not only as a student but also as a global thinker!
What I Love About Stanford OHS
I think the online nature of Stanford OHS makes for a completely different social experience. When you’re in-person, social interactions come a bit more naturally, but if you want to be friends with someone at Stanford OHS, you have to make an extra effort to reach out and, most importantly, stay in touch. But this makes Stanford OHS special because the bond that comes with intentionally keeping in touch with someone and making a point to spend time with them is so much stronger. As a result, we have a very close community who are all extremely supportive and kind to each other.
I also love how the students who have been at Stanford OHS for a long time are always willing to help newer students figure out technical issues, offer academic help, and include them in conversations and events. It makes the transition to a brand-new school so much easier.
