About Me

Hi! My name is Nicholas, and I am an 11th grader dual-enrolled at Stanford Online High School and The Haverford School. Across my four years at Stanford OHS, I’ve experienced full-time, part-time, and single-course enrollment, gaining valuable insights from each approach. A proud expat kid, I have lived all over the world but currently reside with my family in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - but Shanghai will always have my heart!

I am an avid student of Philosophy and am currently pondering the ethics of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. I’m also very interested in Robotics and the impact automation will have on the future of work. I aim to not only understand the intricacies in these fields but also actively contribute to shaping a future where technological progress aligns with ethical values.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I wear multiple hats in various extracurricular realms. I am proud to co-lead both the Theoretical Physics Club and the Competitive Physics Club, fostering a community where the excitement for physics transcends the classroom. Serving as an Editor for the Environmental Justice Magazine allows me to channel my passion for environmental issues into a tangible platform for awareness and change. Outside of Stanford OHS, I am also a chosen member of Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon’s Congressional Youth Cabinet and have had the privilege of contributing to discussions on issues that impact the community around me.

In the future, my goal is to create a deep-tech startup in healthcare that serves as a catalyst for positive disruption, introducing groundbreaking technologies that address systemic issues and significantly improve health outcomes. I aim to contribute not only to technological advancements but also to a paradigm shift in healthcare innovation. I recognize the profound impact of technology and its ability to revolutionize industries, and consider the ethical applications of technology not as an afterthought but as a fundamental aspect of the innovation process.

What I Love About Stanford OHS

I love Stanford Online High School as it offers an unparalleled education experience while fostering a unique and vibrant community that truly sets us apart. Stanford OHS stands as a beacon of academic excellence and innovation, providing students with an online platform that transcends traditional education models.

The dedication of our accomplished instructors, many of whom hold doctorate degrees, really stands out. Our teachers’ expertise in their respective fields is only matched by their passion for teaching and commitment to morphing us into well-rounded citizens ready to enact positive change in the world. Their combination of academic expertise and genuine enthusiasm creates an inspiring learning environment.

Further, the rigor of our curriculum is far beyond that of a traditional high school, not only ensuring a deep understanding of critical concepts but also providing ample support through office hours, peer tutoring, and a robust network of advisors and counselors. This comprehensive support system, which I have both utilized and try to give back to through my role as a peer tutor, ensures our students' ability to conquer the most challenging material, from theoretical physics to political philosophy - both courses I have immensely enjoyed!

Finally, Stanford OHS' culture and community is incomparable. Not only do we have a culture of combining incredible academic success with deep personal growth, but our student body is also diverse and global. There is nothing I love more than having good-natured debates and intellectual exchanges with the members of our engaging online community, a constant source of inspiration and learning as well as my lifelong friends.
