About Me

Hello! My name is Lester, and I am a senior at Stanford OHS. This is my fifth, full-time year here at Stanford OHS. I am a member of the Stanford OHS Observer Club, Business and Finance Club, and the OHS Swimming Circle. Outside of school, I am a competitive swimmer of nine years. Swimming is a large part of my life, and I find that it is a great way to destress while maintaining a healthy body and mind. I also volunteer regularly at a local hospital while organizing events for both staff and patients. For my hobbies, I am a food and music enthusiast, and I always greatly enjoy trying different types of food from various cuisines. I have a great passion for the field of medicine, and I aspire to become a trauma surgeon one day.

Why I Chose Stanford OHS

I love Stanford OHS because my passion for science, coupled with the vigorous learning opportunities here at Stanford OHS, provides me with endless possibilities. In my past two years here at Stanford OHS, I enjoyed every single minute of my time here. The academic environment is unique, and class times are always coupled with great depth of discussions with my instructors and peers. Stanford OHS always offers a countless number of resources, such as peer tutors and tutoring centers to guide us towards success.

One of the most unique experiences as a Stanford OHS student is the chance to enroll in the Core classes. My love for Philosophy grew tremendously because it is a single discipline where we are allowed to discuss everything. We are given the opportunity to test the validity of ideas that challenge us to think deeply in areas we have never encountered before. Besides academics, Stanford OHS also offers a great variety of clubs and social activities where we can engage in fun and meaningful discussions. There is always a place for students to find peers with the same interests.

What I Love About Stanford OHS

During my seven years in a traditional brick-and-mortar school, I found myself constantly looking for something that would challenge me academically. I learned of Stanford OHS through my 4th-grade teacher. After some research, I attended a sample Stanford OHS Biology class that immediately engrossed me in the material. During the sample class, my mind was racing with curiosity, and I knew that I found the perfect place for me, not only because of the fun class environment but also due to how much the professor emphasized the participation of students. In addition, the block schedule grants me the flexibility to continue to pursue my passion for swimming. I believe Stanford OHS will help pave a path that will fulfill my goals within swimming and in becoming a trauma surgeon.
