Why We Chose Stanford OHS
Our family chose Stanford OHS at an inflection point in our lives where we needed geographic flexibility. Stanford OHS gave us that flexibility while providing an amazing academic platform that is both challenging and supportive. From my children’s perspective, OHS feels more like a meritocracy. By giving placement tests at the outset, each student works at the right challenge level in each of subject. Also, the breadth and depth of courses allowed them more academic “freedom” to pick from among disciplines. So, for example, having made the choice of which science, physics vs. chemistry or bio, my kids felt more vested in what they are learning.
Advice for Prospective Parents
Ensure your student has a work planner to manage his or her time – either paper or electronic. We have used both: my son prefers the “ToDoist” and my daughter stayed with paper.
One of My Favorite Things About Stanford OHS Is…
The academic challenge, truly unparalleled teaching, intellectually curious student body and wonderfully warm and inclusive community kept us at Stanford OHS even after our “sabbatical” was complete. We are now in year three at OHS.
