About Me
Hello, my name is Henry, I live in Florida, and as a sophomore this is my 4th year at Stanford OHS. Outside of Stanford OHS, some of my extracurriculars are rowing, playing the cello in orchestra, and competing in FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) events. Some of my current hobbies include designing 3D printers, 3D modeling, and researching new technologies. I plan on going into the field of engineering, most likely either mechanical or electrical engineering.
Why I Chose Stanford OHS
I initially decided to apply to Stanford OHS after going to my local public school through 6th grade, and finding it difficult to find like minded peers with whom I could interact. After having previous experiences with online academic programs through Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) and Art of Problem Solving (AoPS), I thought that I would be able to transition into the online environment easily. Although it wasn’t as easy to make this transition as I had thought it would be, after getting acquainted I found that learning became significantly more fun as I could interact with many students on a high level compared to the maybe two to three at my previous school.
Stanford OHS has allowed me to take classes at a higher level than I had ever thought possible and has given me significant flexibility in my schedule due to not needing to be at a specific location to attend class. I am able to participate in weekend long rowing regattas, which require me to travel during the school week, without missing any of my classes. Academically, Stanford OHS has allowed me to take courses which typically would only be available in college. I know that because of the academic rigor of all my classes that I will be very prepared to attend any top university.
What I Love About Stanford OHS
I like that the students at Stanford OHS are so willing to help one another. One thing that I find unique to Stanford OHS is that I can contact other students, through Pronto, who are in my classes, at any hour, because of Stanford OHS’s international student body. Also, sometimes when I’m feeling burnt out from doing homework, I’ve found it helpful to join a video call with another student to work on homework at the same time, even if we’re not working on the same assignment. I enjoy their company while I’m studying and it helps both of us to get our work done.
Outside of academics, I love attending the in person events such as Homecoming and Graduation Weekend, which allow me to interact with my fellow classmates.
