Hi! I'm Hannah, and I’m a figure skater for Team USA Theatre on Ice, which combines my love for both performing and sports. When I’m not on the ice, I’m usually diving into business, whether it’s practicing stock trading simulations or exploring different areas of entrepreneurship.
Outside of that, I love spending time with my two cats, baking (especially when I’m experimenting with new recipes), and running to clear my mind.
Why I Chose Stanford OHS
I applied to Stanford Online High School because I was seeking an environment that matched my aspirations for academic rigor and personal growth. My background, shaped by private school schooling, left me yearning for a setting that fostered deep intellectual engagement. I had heard from fellow skaters about Stanford OHS's outstanding reputation, especially regarding its challenging curriculum and dynamic discussions. Given my ice rink and school schedules, which limited my skating time and opportunities to advance, I was drawn to the flexibility and opportunities at Stanford OHS.
What I Love About Stanford OHS
What I find truly unique about Stanford Online High School is its remarkable academic environment, where the pursuit of knowledge is both rigorous and invigorating. The curriculum not only challenges me intellectually but also invites me to engage in profound discussions that touch upon complex philosophical concepts—an experience unlike any other I’ve had in my educational journey. The maturity and insight of my peers create a dynamic atmosphere that allows us to delve deeply into these topics, fostering a rich dialogue that expands our understanding and appreciation of the world around us.
Office hours are another treasure of this school, offering me the chance to connect with teachers on a personal level. Their wealth of knowledge transcends the confines of the classroom, revealing insights that illuminate the subjects we study. For instance, my club's interview with Dr. Zarlengo, an English teacher with a wealth of experience in law, was not just enlightening but also sparked a curiosity within me to explore new avenues of thought. These interactions have deepened my learning experience, demonstrating the broader implications of our studies.
