B.A., University of Alberta
M.A., University of Alberta
Ph.D., Stanford University

Originally from Scotland, Dr. McLuckie grew up in Edmonton, AB, Canada. He earned his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Alberta, and his Ph.D. in Philosophy (Joint Program in Ancient Philosophy) from Stanford University. After graduating from Stanford, he spent a year teaching HSC and DFRL at the OHS before returning to the University of Alberta as a Postdoctoral Fellow. He then served as the Managing Editor for the Journal of the History of Philosophy and an Adjunct Professor before rejoining the OHS.

Dr. McLuckie has many interests in the history of philosophy, especially in Ancient, Early Modern, and Nineteenth-Century Philosophy, and has taught a variety of courses in these areas at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels. His research generally focusses on topics/issues that are connected to what the philosopher Immanuel Kant identified as the fundamental philosophical question: “what is the human being?”

Dr. McLuckie’s free time is spent obsessing about the Edmonton Oilers (who will win the Stanley Cup this year!) and spending time with his wife and two border collies.
