Financial Aid Application Instructions

Families who wish to apply for financial aid are required to complete the following steps. The deadlines for submission of financial aid applications are November 1, 2023 for currently-enrolled students and January 18, 2024 for prospective new students.

Instructions

  1. Fill out and submit the School and Student Services (SSS) Parents’ Financial Statement Online (PFS). The Stanford OHS school code is 4308.
    • Applicants whose parents are separated, never married, or divorced, Stanford OHS considers the financial resources of both parents, if living. A Parents Financial Statement (PFS) should be submitted for each household. The Financial Aid Committee does not consider an assertion by a parent to disclaim financial responsibility for a student’s educational expenses. In rare cases, the requirement for a Non-Custodial Parents Financial Statement can be waived on a case by case basis. If you believe you may qualify, please reach out to ohsfinancialaid@stanford.edu.

  2. Submit copies of all required documents. 
    • U.S. families: Complete 2022 tax returns and W2 forms. You must include all supporting tax schedules such as the Schedule SE for Self-Employment Tax. Please upload Schedule E and corresponding documents - K-1, Forms 1120-S (s-corp.), or 1065 (partnership) - as "Additional Documents" in the uploader tool.
    • International families: For families who do not file U.S. tax documents, we require official income/asset documentation for 2022, such as annual foreign tax returns and official, annual wage statements from employers. If tax information is in a language other than English, submit a translated copy along with the original. You must also complete and submit the SSS International Student Financial Aid Profile form. Further details about submitting the International Student Financial Aid Profile form can be found on the SSS website.

  3. We expect our families to contribute some amount to tuition costs, if it is within their means to do so. Please seriously consider what your family can contribute toward Stanford OHS tuition for each child who will attend, and enter that figure into question 21b, under "Supplemental Questions" on the PFS. We will use this figure and SSS' determination of your family's ability to pay when making our financial aid award decisions.

  4. Explain any unusual circumstances by submitting additional information in the section titled “Unusual Conditions.” Clarification during the financial aid application phase will prevent unnecessary delays in award decisions.

  5. Pay PFS fee: $60. The financial aid application is not complete until the fee is paid or waived. If the financial aid application fees to Stanford Online High School causes a financial hardship for your family, please contact the Admissions Office to request a fee waiver. Financial aid applications must be complete, other than the fee payment, to receive a fee waiver.

  6. Note the following when completing your submission:
    • After completing your SSS application, you will need to wait one business day before you can upload required or supporting documents.
    • You must submit all required documents directly on the SSS application website. Do not submit documents by any other method.
    • You are required to block out or redact Social Security numbers anywhere they appear in your tax returns or other financial documents before uploading them to the SSS application website.
    • All documents must be submitted in a PDF or JPG format. Note that files cannot be larger than 500K. For help formatting documents for uploading, reference the tips provided on the SSS website.

The Financial Aid Review Committee

The deadlines for submission of financial aid applications are November 1, 2023 for currently-enrolled students and January 18, 2024 for prospective new students. Financial aid submissions received after the deadlines will be reviewed; however, there may not be financial aid funds available for late applicants. Late applications or documents may also result in a delayed financial aid decision. Applications received on or before the deadline will receive priority consideration. Currently-enrolled students with complete financial aid applications submitted by the deadline will receive a decision before re-enrollment opens. Prospective new students with complete financial aid applications submitted by the deadline will be able to view their award amount with the admission decision letter in early March 2024.
