A studio drawing course for high-school students of all skill levels—from beginning to more advanced—with interest in drawing the human head. Students will learn the elements of drawing and composition with a focus on portraiture through demonstration, sequenced exercises, source information, and critiques using a variety of materials and techniques, including quick sketch, long and short poses, structure and proportion of the face, basic facial anatomy, contour/cross-contour, light and shadow, perspective, measurement, and positive/negative space. In addition, students will gain an appreciation and understanding of the role of portrait drawing through history as well as its aesthetic and cultural value.
