This is a beginning Chinese course designed for students who have no previous experience with the Chinese language and emphasizes practical speaking and listening skills, with gradual introduction of sentence structures and a broad vocabulary. In Chinese 1A students learn about 300 basic characters, and will read and write sentences, short dialogues and paragraphs. The course is enriched with topics in Chinese culture and history, with attention to the interests of a middle school student group. With successful completion of the Chinese 1A and 1B sequence, students can enter Chinese 2 in high school.
