Topic for Fall 2023: Philosophy Through Science Fiction. In this course, students will explore central topics in philosophy, including the theory of knowledge, the nature of mind and self, and ethics, through a close reading of science fiction literature and contemporary philosophical papers. The course will prepare students to think carefully and critically about various ways in which advanced technology can or likely will shape the sort of world we live in, create difficult new ethical dilemmas, and challenge our ideas of what it means to be human.
